Jumla district, a part of Karnali zone, is one of the seventy-five districts of Nepal. Jumla, on the banks of the Tila River at 2370 metres altitude, is one of the highest rice growing areas in the world.

The Tila Valley as well as the Sinja Khola Valley are covered with paddy fields growing the 'Kala Marci' rice variety, a unique red rice that is sought after for its special taste.
The origin of Nepali language is Sinja of Jumla. Jumla is a zonal headquarters of the Karnali zone. Jumla, on the banks of the Tila River at 2370 meters, is one of the highest rice growing areas in the world. The entire Tila valley is covered with paddy fields growing a unique red rice that is more tasty than white rice, but is scorned by most local People. The people in this region speak their own version of Nepali. The people throughout the region are Thakuris, and also Chhetris who have the highest social, political and ritual status. Treks to Rara National Park starts and ends at Jumla.

Trekking facilities are nonexistent , but the local Buddhist highlanders are accomodaing to strangers.

Access: A number of domestic airlines fly to Jumla from Nepalgunj and less frequently from Kathmandu. Similarly there are regular flights to Simikot ( Humla's district headquarters) from Nepalgunj.

Yala Sambat 5020

Margh 1st – new year colebration of Kirati, Prayer of earth and nature, celebrate new year with the rember of their ancient king “Yalambar” . So, the title is called “Yala”.Yala called Yalamber.

In this day people boiled "Tarul (Root food)". According to the Bairage Kaila, Kirati used to take 43 types of species of root food. Among the cost of Kirati, Rai, Limbhu,, Sunuwar and Yakha had plays vital role to take legamate of their sambat. Rai says Yale Dong, Limbhu says Tanngbay and Sunuwar says Thochew for their new year.
