One of Nepal's most famous religious places of pilgrimage is Gosainkunda lake situated at an altitude of about 4360 m. Surrounded by high mountains on the north and east, this lake is grand and picturesque.

There are other nine famous lakes such as Saraswati, Bhairav, Sourya and Ganesh Kunda. Every year during Janai Purnima in August, thousands of Hindu pilgrims come here to lake holy bathe in the lake. Trekking around the central Himalaya in admiration of its cultural diversity and topographical difference is more exciting and interesting, discover different culture of various racial groups, the lower ridges are inhabited by Tamangs and Sherpas whereas the higher region by Tibetans. This trek also provides a chance to observe one of a holy site of Hindu people the blessed Gosainkunda Lake. This trek offers a fascinating views of Langtang Range, Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, Naya Kanga, Lang Shisha.We follow a rugged trail with dramatic views; to the west Himal chuli (7893m) Manaslu (8156mm) and Ganesh Himal (7406m). We pass a few huts in the high picture of Laurebina, cross a small ridge and have our first views of the holy lakes. There are about a dozen lakes in the Gosainkunda Basin, the main three being Saraswatikunda, Bhairabkunda, and Gosainkunda. According to fable, Shiva created Gosainkunda when he pierce a glacier with his trident to obtain water to slake his thirst after having swallow a poison that threatened to destroy the world.
Access: The best approach to Gosainkunda is through Dhunche,132 kilometers north-east of Kathmandu. Dhunche is linked with Kathmandu by a motorable road. The trekking to Gosainkunda from Dhunche takes two days.
