Rafting in Bhote Koshi River

Many of the rivers in Nepal flow across the length and breathe of the country, and rafting is no doubt the best way of travel around Arcadian Nepal. The water offers something to every body, from grade 5.5 + rivers with many raging rapids for the brave and the adventurous, to grade 2-3 rivers with few rapids for the laid back. Options include 1-3 day trip or even two-week trips.

Just three hours from Kathmandu, the Bhote Koshi is unquestionably the most exciting thing you can do in Nepal and one of the best two day rafting tips offered anywhere in the world. With very steep and continuous mountain streams, experience with the Bhote Koshi is like being glowing down a huge open-air toilet, but the Tidy sink Man is your guide and there are not worries.

Day I rafting begins with a gem of rapid start outs with a long series of rock evasion and hole riding and ends with the entire river rebounding off of two rocks before spilling over a two-meter ledge into a big soft pool.

The next six kilometers of river is a no-stop series of class 3 and 4 drops terminating into short pools with the next drop just a few feet away. The river flows through a beautiful narrow gorge with verdant green vegetation and waterfalls coming in from the steep stonewall . Continuing downward then through the centre of town and onto a short flat stretch leads to a dam. Upon reaching the dam, the entire gradient of the last kilometer fulminates into fifty meters of extremely steep and technical rapid, respectfully known as The Great Wall. It takes the right river levels to be able to run the Great Wall. The Great Wall’s one redeeming  feature is that there is a pool at the bottom, and right after the pool is hard to believe rapid called Liquid Bliss, which leads directly into another rapid called My God,  What To Do ? making it one of the most fun stretches on the river.

Day 2 is all about action, After a long series of class 3 rapids, you drop into the first class 4-drop,  affectionately known as Gerbil In The Plumbing. From Gerbil there is a stretch of class 3 white water and then you come across the root of the day, which is a long, technical rapid called Frog in a Blender (guess who’s the frog). The guides often rub this one, a with changing water levels the rids can become, well, interesting. Do not worry though, your dependable and strong safety kayaker will be waiting for you at the bottom.

The trip ends with a hit through a long series of drops known as Dazed and Confused. At the end of the two days trip, you’re bound to have gathered some of the finest white water rafting to be had anywhere.

The Bhote Kosi rafting/kayking trip is regarded as one of the best short white water rafting trips in the world. The Bhote Koshi is the steepest river that is rafted in Nepal, with continuous rapid action making this river a full-on commitment and a huge adrenaline rush.
Whitewater Rafting/Kayaking on Bhote Kosi river is an ideal trip for those wanting a short, but intense and thrilling river trip.
